Washington’s state parks are incredible. We’re so lucky to have 124 state parks to choose from, all available for the small purchase of a Discover Pass (aside from our annual Free Park Days). And while these natural oases range from minuscule to massive, one of our favorites is actually one of our largest state parks.

If you’re a fan of camping, swimming, hiking, clam digging, and simply enjoying nature, you’ll love Dosewallips State Park.

Dosewallips State Park sits on the western shore of Hood Canal, just two miles south of Brinnon.

Jilly’s Journey / Google Spanning 425 acres, this is one of the largest state parks in Washington. The fields were old homestead sites prior to the property becoming a park. Look closely and you might be able to spot some old rail beds where logs were hauled from the mountains down to the water before they were floated to their destination.

Here, you’ll find 5,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on Hood Canal and 5,400 feet of freshwater shoreline on either side of the Dosewallips River.

Clam and mussel season is in the summer and early fall, but oyster season is open for harvest year-round.

The park has miles of hiking trails that lead to a lot of hidden treasures.

All the hiking, exploring, boating, and clam digging will make anyone hungry.

Chas / Google Luckily, there’s a restaurant near the park’s entrance, Geoduck Restaurant and Lounge—and both the food and the views are excellent.

If you’d prefer to spend a night or two here, reserve one of the 100 tent spaces and 40 utility spaces and go camping.
