Ever wonder about how Arizona ranks on the drinking scale compared to the rest of the country? Overall, we’re pretty average and can hold our liquor a little better than a lot of other states across the country. However, County Health Rankings and Roadmaps recently published information about how the different counties compare in terms of drinking and some fare a little worse than others.

This list looks at the percentage of adults in 10 of our 15 counties who reported excessive drinking, which can be defined in two ways: heavy drinking and binge drinking. Heavy drinking consists of consuming on an average day more than one drink for women or two drinks for men. Binge drinking consists of consuming more than four drinks for women and five drinks for men at least once within 30 days of the survey. In addition to this information, we included the number of bars per 10,000 people present in each county as determined by Find the Home. On average, Arizona has 3.24 bars per 10,000 people which is lower than the US average at 4.03 bars. Check out how some of our counties fared.
