Far out in the California desert, you can find Joshua Tree National Park, the national park that is famous for its dual ecosystems, scattered trees, and beautiful sunrises. If you are looking for a friendly town to visit, Twentynine Palms is located just outside of Joshua Tree National Park, and with a population of just over 25,000, it is a friendly small town that you could only find in the California desert.
Twentynine Palms is part of San Bernardino County and actually has one of the entry points to Joshua Tree National Park, so if you have ever been to the park, you probably crossed through Twentynine Palms.

One of our favorite things about these California desert cities are the sunrises and the sunsets. There’s nothing quite like watching the sun silhouette the trees over the desert landscape.

Twentynine Palms is also well known for its large outdoor murals. Throughout this city, there are 26 outdoor murals, which have been painted on local buildings, that depict desert life.

Besides serving as an entrance to Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms also serves as an entrance to the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command, which means that there are always new faces in town.

Exploring the town is also a blast. There’s an old gold mine to explore; you can watch a cowboy shootout, or you can time your trip so you arrive during the annual Pioneer Days events.
