There are a lot of great places to swim in Connecticut, so there’s always somewhere to cool off in the summer time. One of our favorite swimming holes in Connecticut is Lake Waramaug. This massive 656-acre lake is in several towns throughout Litchfield County. It’s an incredibly scenic place that’s popular in the autumn for its stunning fall foliage, but it’s also got several designated swimming areas that make it a great place to visit in the summer.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Connecticut at any time of year. The only place where the lake can be publicly accessed is Lake Waramaug State Park - the rest of the shoreline is privately-owned.

Vas/Google Maps Residents of Warren and Washington can also access the beaches in their respective towns.

Kayak and canoe rentals are available within the park. Hiking, biking, and fishing are other popular activities here.

There are several spots within the park where the beach is open for swimming. You’ll see buoys clearly marking the areas where swimming is allowed.

Management/Tripadvisor Of course, you’ll want to make sure to only enter the water in designated areas for safety.

Even if you don’t feel like taking a dip, just sitting at the water’s edge and relaxing is a beautiful experience.

Summer can get so hot in the Nutmeg State. Feeling a warm lake breeze roll in as it ripples across the surface of the water is one sure way to cool off.
