The Mountain Tower is located on the summit of Hot Springs Mountain, and it looks like a miniature Space Needle. Let’s explore this unique gem in Arkansas.
Standing at 216 feet, this tower is hard to miss. It is the most recognizable structure that overlooks the town of Hot Springs.

But before you take the hike to see the tower, here’s a brief history. The tower was first constructed as a 80-foot wooden structure in 1877, but was later struck by lightning and burned down. Then a steel tower was erected in 1906 but was later taken down due to instability.

Finally, the current tower was built in 1983, and it has been steadily attracting visitors ever since. Ok, enough with that history lesson, let’s get to the top of this tower.

There are two ways to access the tower. You can stay in the car and take the scenic drive up the mountain, and then hop on the elevator to get to the top of the tower.

Or if it’s a nice day outside, we recommend taking the lovely 1.5-mile scenic hike, and then take the stairs to the top. Or maybe skip those stairs and take the elevator instead…whew!

Regardless of how you make it to the top, the overlook is worth every minute of the journey. Look at this incredible view of the town in the distance. Wow!

The best time of year to visit this tower is during the Spring and Fall months. You can watch those beautiful sunsets and witness the night lights glistening from the town below.

The observation deck offers panoramic views of the Ouachita Mountains and Hot Springs Mountain. There is also a gift shop and a museum where you can learn about the history of the town and the tower.
