Where to stay near Haystack Rock September 30, 2022 Sarah M. Tell me more about Haystack Rock. The Oregon Coast is famous for its incredible rock formations. Once upon a time, lava flowed through what’s now known as the Pacific Northwest. The hot, molten flows eventually cooled into solid black basalt, and millions of years of erosion have resulted in the natural wonders we see dotting the Oregon Coast today. The most famous of Oregon’s sea stacks is Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach. Standing at 235 feet tall, this Oregon monolith is an incredible sight to see, and one of the most iconic places in the PNW. One of three “Haystack Rock” formations on the Oregon Coast, this is the one featured in the 1980s classic “The Goonies.” And guess what? it’s not the only Haystack Rock on the coast, either! Towering 327 feet above sea level, Haystack Rock at Pacific City is the tallest of Oregon’s coastal Haystack Rocks; the other two, found off Cannon Beach and near Bandon, stand at 235 feet and 105 feet, respectively. What are some fun things to do at Cannon Beach? With your digs at this impossibly charming Horner House rental near Haystack Rock, the world is yours! Cannon Beach is arguably the most well-known spot on the Oregon Coast, famed for its stunning shores and iconic rock formations. But Cannon Beach isn’t just one of the Beaver State’s most beautiful beaches, it’s also an idyllic seaside town that’s home to some of the most charming little shops and local businesses in the PNW. We’re talking a coastal locale that’s straight out of a Hallmark movie, with weather-worn buildings housing some of the most amazing little restaurants, retailers, and accommodations. For those with a sweet tooth, Bruce’s Candy Kitchen is a perennial favorite, with its pink-and-white striped shop welcoming folks since 1963, while Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House is a quirky little spot that’s got a bit of everything: hardware, wines, and even pub grub. Cannon Beach is one of those places that every Oregonian needs to vacation at least once, and there’s no better “home base” than the above cottage, which is just a mile south of the iconic beach town.
