Some of the state’s most haunted locales are also the most historic. And that’s exactly the case with Drummond Bridge. Now deserted, the bridge has been around for centuries. And over the years, its reputation has only grown more sinister. This may be the scariest bridge in Tennessee.

At first glance, the abandoned railroad trestle in Briceville doesn’t look like anything special. However, it’s actually been deemed one of the “most haunted places in Tennessee.”

Exploration Unknown/YouTube Over the years, the now dilapidated bridge, which is known as Drummond Bridge, has attracted paranormal investigators from near and far. And they all seem to agree – the bridge is undeniably haunted.

When you learn about the bridge’s past, rumors of its haunting are not surprising.

Exploration Unknown/YouTube According to legend, Richard Drummond was hanged on the bridge in August of 1893.

Though Drummond wasn’t hanged until 1893, trouble in the area actually started a couple of years earlier with the Coal Creek War.

Eventually, all but one of the mines agreed to pay workers in cash. The Tennessee Coal Mining Company, however, refused to cave. Adding insult to injury, the Tennessee Coal Mining Company chose to hire unskilled convict miners, who were shipped in from Knoxville.

Refusing to go down without a fight, the veteran miners gained control of the stockade and attempted to send the convict miners back to Knoxville.

In the midst of all the fighting, a young miner named Richard Drummond reportedly killed a soldier and, because of such, was sentenced to death by hanging.

Exploration Unknown/YouTube Not long after Drummond’s hanging, stories began to spread that his ghost haunted the railroad trestle where he took his last breath. And those stories have only continued throughout the decades, attracting everyone from the curious to paranormal investigators. Some claim that Drummond’s ghost can be seen pacing from one end of the bridge to the other at the stroke of midnight, while others say you can hear Drummond gasping for his last breath. And then there are others, who believe that things just “seem off,” citing cattle that avoid grazing the field under the bridge or dogs that won’t go near or cross the bridge.
