Canyonlands National Park is one of Utah’s most underrated national parks. However, it deserves your attention as it is full of countless canyons, gorgeous buttes, and the majestic Colorado River. One of the best ways to capture the beauty of this national park in Utah is a visit to the Grand View Point Overlook. This is one of the most popular and jaw-dropping overlooks in Canyonlands National Park (maybe even the entire state!) but to reach it, you have a bit of a hike ahead of you.

You’ll find the Grand View Point Trail along the Island in the Sky scenic drive.

Lance Chen/Google The Grand View Point Trail is essentially broken up into two different sections. Both are quite easy and short, but the second half of the trail is going to challenge you a little more. If you wish to do the entire trail, you will trek approximately 1.8-miles. You’ll want to plan a little over an hour to complete the trail in its entirety. However, give yourself a little longer so you can sit and enjoy the views.

The first portion of the trail is only 100 yards and the entire trail is paved and highly accessible. You can bring wheelchairs and strollers along this portion of the trail — nobody will want to miss this scene.

At this first viewpoint, you can capture incredible views of the La Sal Mountains, White Rim Road, The Needles, Monument Basin, and more.

You’ll notice that past this viewpoint is an unpaved trail. While still fairly easy, this is where you must put forth a little more effort.

As you walk along this 1-mile trail, you’ll encounter stairs and some unstable surfaces, making it no longer accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. If you have young children with you, keep a close eye on them as there are some steep ledges along this portion of the Grand View Point Trail.

There is beautiful scenery every step of the way. Just make sure you pay attention to the trail and don’t become too distracted by the views around you — it’s much more difficult than it seems!

Once you reach the second viewpoint, you’ll be grateful you put forth the effort. This is one of the best views in Canyonlands National Park.

The Grand View Point Trail can become quite busy so be respectful of other hikers. Also, make sure to bring sun protection and plenty of water as there is little shade. This trail is open year-round but during the winter months, you can experience snow and ice. During this time, traction devices are recommended.
