This Great Trail Will Take You To Two Of The Best Lakes In Alaska

Getting out and exploring the Chugach National Forest is an amazing treat. And if you’re looking for a great trail to one of the best alpine lakes in Alaska, check out the Palmer Creek Lakes Trail in Hope. The trail will take you past the remnants of old Alaska mining camps and all the way to two beautifully blue, crystal clear alpine lakes. This is a hike the whole family will love.

At the end of Palmer Creek Road in Hope, Alaska is a trail that will take you into the Chugach National Forest.

You’ll find really interesting remnants along the trail of these great old mining camps.

Quinn Sawyer / AllTrails In 1894, George Palmer discovered gold on the banks of Palmer Creek. This area became the site of both placer and lode mining.

The land here is home to both the famous Lucky Strike and Hirshey mines.

There are a few creeks to cross as you hike your way up this lake trail, so make sure you dress appropriately! Wear water-resistant shoes and, of course, watch your step. Rocks can be slippery.

The hike is pretty clear and straightforward. The most difficult part about this trail is that it can be a little steep at times.

Bring a picnic so you can take some time to enjoy the trail’s summit once you reach the end.

There are plenty of places where you can come face to face with that history today, and even do your own mining!
