This Easy Trail In Connecticut Takes You To A Gorgeous Lake

Looking for a fairly easy trail that will take you right to a beautiful lake? Look no further, we’ve got just the loop trail in Connecticut for you. Day Pond State Park is a lovely little park in Colchester that spans 180 acres and contains several great trails. One of our favorites is the Salmon River Trail Loop, which will take you right to the pond that shares the park’s name.

Day Pond State Park is not one of the better-known state parks in Connecticut, but it’s a lovely little park. There’s actually quite a bit of protected land in this area, as the park backs right up to the 1,300-acre Salmon River State Forest.

The entire Salmon River Trail Loop is about 3.2 miles. The trail will lead you right past Day Pond, and you’ll see Day Pond Brook Falls, a man-made waterfall.

Day Pond and a few foundation stones are what remains of the Day family estate that once lived here. They built the pond to use hydroelectric power to run the family sawmill.
