Established in 1865 as a way to protect emigrants and supplies moving along the Overland Trail, Fort Morgan (then Camp Wardwell) was platted just north of the original base and has since served as a military training camp and, currently, a diverse agriculture community.

Despite being born in Iowa and frequently moving during his childhood, Glenn Miller considered the Eastern Plains community his hometown, as he played football for and graduated from Fort Morgan High School.
Wikimedia Commons/Public Domain It was also during his time at Fort Morgan High when the multi-talented youth decided to pursue a career in music.
When you visit Fort Morgan, check out the charming downtown district, which is chock-full of original buildings plus one-of-a-kind stores, special events, and other surprises.
