One of the main attractions of this place is this towering hill. There are 193 steps to the top, so be prepared for a bit of a workout heading up.

The stairs are, luckily, not very steep, and the view waiting for you at the top is worth every single step you took to get there.

The top of the hill has an observation area, allowing visitors to look out over the forests and prairie meadows that make up the preserve, as well as a view of Devils Lake. This is North Dakota’s largest natural lake, and you can see across it to the land far off on the other side from here.

Along with the hill, there are other trails in the preserve that will take you through the trees, along the marshes, and next to the lake.

Since it’s a game preserve, this area is heavily populated with animals like bison, elk, deer, prairie dogs, and more, so you can expect to see some when you visit.
