There are so many great small towns in Alabama. While many are drawn to our larger cities, we have a ton of perfectly charming little towns that are ideal for a weekend escape. We’ve gathered up a few of our favorites that are great, whether you’re looking to get away simply for an afternoon or spend an entire weekend there. You’ll definitely want to add all these spots to your Cotton State bucket list!

Mentone

Tucked away in the northeast corner of the state, this area is part of the southern end of the Appalachian foothills and it’s such a gorgeous region. There is so much beautiful natural scenery here, and the breathtaking views will have you wanting to return again and again. Mentone is also home to a variety of cozy bed and breakfasts, wonderful restaurants, and several unique shops. With under 500 residents, this is one of the smaller towns in Alabama, but it’s definitely worth a visit. Mentone, AL, USA

Fairhope

This lovely town is home to several spacious parks, beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods, and a wonderful downtown area. Monroeville

Its nickname derives from the fact that it’s the hometown of several award-winning writers. Harper Lee, Truman Capote, Cynthia Tucker, and more all called this place home. The town’s main attraction is the Old Monroe County Courthouse, which features the courtroom that was modeled in the film version of Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Monroeville, AL 36460, USA

Magnolia Springs

Interestingly, it’s home to the only water mail delivery route in the United States! Magnolia Springs features gorgeous scenery, a cozy bed and breakfast, and some wonderful options for dining. Many consider this place to be the most beautiful spot in Alabama: it’s home to both Little River Canyon and Little River Falls. Fort Payne also features a wonderful downtown area that offers several antique shops and restaurants. This tiny town has under 100 residents and was incorporated back in 1818. What makes Mooresville so special is that the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s home to the state’s oldest operational post office, built in 1840. This tiny town may not have a ton to do, but since it’s located right outside of Huntsville, you can find endless opportunities for fun in the area. Mooresville, AL 35649, USA

Eufaula
