Indiana may not be the state that immediately comes to mind when you conjure images of stunning beaches – but it should be. These stunning photos of Lake Michigan prove that oceans have nothing on the Great Lakes in Indiana! Could this be the single most beautiful place in Indiana? Guess you’ll see:
- Lake Michigan stretches for 234 square miles across Indiana, touching seven different Indiana cities.

- This photo from Beverly Shores showcases the gorgeous beams of light over this lake that seemingly stretch on forever.

- From cities like Whiting, you can even get an amazing view of the Chicago skyline from across the lake.

- The lighthouse and catwalk along the lake in Michigan City add a classic charm to this already beautiful body of water.

- The amazing sand dunes located on the other side of the lake are also breathtaking to behold.

- Sunsets, like this incredible red sky, also put ocean sunsets to shame.

- The gorgeous ecosystem around this Great Lake is also stunning - from sandy dunes and hills to lush green valleys.

- Lake Michigan is gorgeous when the waters are rough….

- It’s beautiful at night time…

- It’s the perfect lake for boating…

- It’s even gorgeous when it’s stormy.

- This lake is, quite frankly, a little slice of paradise right here in the Hoosier state.

The Great Lakes in Indiana are just as beautiful (if not more impressive) than any ocean. For more stunning Indiana lakes, check out these waterfront towns in Indiana worth visiting in the Hoosier state.

Great Lakes in Indiana July 11, 2022 Tori Jane How much of Lake Michigan is in Indiana? Lake Michigan really is great when it comes to size, but we here in the Hoosier State have just a little bit of it to call our own. With more than 1,600 miles of shoreline around the entire lake, just 45 of those miles belong to Indiana. But you know what? We rock it anyway. There are some truly amazing maritime towns in Indiana along the shores of Lake Michigan, and the beaches on Lake Michigan (especially Indiana’s) are simply breathtaking. There are all kinds of amazing things to do in Indiana on and nearby the lake, and of course, some of Indiana’s best hiking trails can be found here as well. It’s an outdoorsy person’s dream come true! What are the great lakes in Indiana? When it comes to the literal Great Lake of the United States, the only one Indiana has any claim to is Lake Michigan. Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of other great lakes in Indiana in terms of, well, literal greatness. Check out some of the most amazing Indiana lakes as soon as you get a moment, like the beautiful, one-of-a-kind Monroe Lake, where you can go fishing, boating, hiking, camping, and more. We’re also major fans of Indiana’s Patoka Lake, where you can find even more of the best fishing and hiking in the Midwest. Where can I find some amazing photos of Lake Michigan in Indiana? We have this weird obsession with amazing photos of Lake Michigan, and luckily for us, there are plenty of places to find them. We personally love heading to somewhere like Flickr and searching for, simply, something like Lake Michigan in Indiana. Should you do this you’ll be pulled into a photogenic paradise that you won’t believe is really Indiana! Lake Michigan is absolutely one of the most scenic places in Indiana, and the photos will prove it. Guess you’ll just have to come out and see for yourself.
