According to some valid and presumably scientific reports, some towns in the Palmetto State have racked up some points on Santa’s naughty list this year. Let’s take a look at who’s been misbehaving. Is your town on the naughty list?

  1. Myrtle Beach

Michael Underwood/Flickr Myrtle Beach earned the #1 spot on the Safewise 2015 report of Most Dangerous Cities in America. Myrtle Beach also ranked as the #2 Drunkest City in the Palmetto State by Roadsnacks. To identify the 30 most dangerous cities, SafeWise looked at cities with a 2013 population of 10,000 or more and analyzed recent FBI Crime Report statistics. Scroll down the page at this link to see Roadsnack’s methodology for naming the #2 Drunkest City in SC.

  1. Murrell’s Inlet

Myrtle Beach TheDigitel/Flickr Sorry, Murrell’s Inlet. You ranked #1 on Roadsnacks list of Drunkest Cities in South Carolina. Scroll down the page at this link to see their methodology for making you #1.

  1. Charleston

Pierre Metivier/Flickr Uh-oh, Charleston. Roadsnacks ranked you the #1 Snobbiest Place in South Carolina. Sorry. Check out their methodology here under the paragraph heading “How We Determined The Snobbiest Places In South Carolina.” To be fair to the rest of the market, it looks as if their population count in the report is referring to those within the city limits and not the WHOLE metro.

  1. Hilton Head

Scott Beale/Flickr Before you silently snicker at the fate of your neighbor to the north, Hilton Head, you should know Roadsnacks ranked you the #2 Snobbiest Place in South Carolina. Better luck next year, my friends.

  1. Fort Mill

Facebook/Town of Fort Mill Congratulations! Out of all the towns and cities in South Carolina you were the #1 City for Ashley Madison paid registered users at the time their customer list was hacked and spread all over the internet this past year. If you live in Fort Mill and have no idea who Ashley Madison is, she is an “it.” An internet dating site that caters to married people who are looking to cheat on their spouses.

  1. Lexington

Donald Lee Pardue/Flickr Don’t laugh at Fort Mill, Lexington. You ranked #2 in South Carolina for users of Ashley Madison. Ooooh. …Wait. How far is it from Lexington to Fort Mill??

  1. Dillon

Wikimedia Commons/Bill Fitzpatrick Dillon topped the list of Roadsnacks Worst Places To Live in South Carolina. It also topped their list as #1 Most Dangerous Place to Live. Yes, we realize Myrtle Beach has already claimed that spot on the “Safewise” rankings (see #1 above if you’re confused at this point). But Roadsnacks claims to use the Safewise report and then they add more factors to determine their own most dangerous rankings. See their full methodology here.

  1. North Myrtle Beach

Wikipedia/Melikamp North Myrtle Beach earned the #15 spot on the Safewise 2015 report of Most Dangerous Cities in America. To identify the 30 most dangerous cities, SafeWise looked at cities with a 2013 population of 10,000 or more and analyzed recent FBI Crime Report statistics.

  1. Anderson

Andy Perkins/Flickr Anderson earned the #25 spot on the Safewise 2015 report of Most Dangerous Cities in America. To identify the 30 most dangerous cities, SafeWise looked at cities with a 2013 population of 10,000 or more and analyzed recent FBI Crime Report statistics.

  1. Florence

OZinOH/Flickr Sperlings Best Places ranked the Top 100 Small Metros in the US according to the stress levels of the residents. Florence ranked #17 Most Stressful out of 100 small cities on the list. C’mon Florence, lighten up. Santa can feel the mojo when it’s off.

The “Sperling Stress Index” is comprised of nine different factors which are associated with stress: unemployment rate, divorce rate, commute time, violent and property crime rates, suicide rate, alcohol consumption, self-reported “poor mental health,” and number of cloudy days. A complete explanation of their methodology can be found here.

While the facts presented here are from real sources, it’s obviously not at all our intention to “judge” our fellow South Carolinians. So take this whole “naughty report” with a grain of salt. And please, if you’re thinking of moving to any of these places, don’t make your decision about moving solely on some rankings you found on the internet. Go visit in person and then make a decision. Personally, I think all of South Carolina is worthy of getting the #1 Best of Everything Possible award.

But hypothetically speaking, what other towns would you add to the Naughty list? And why should Santa remove yours if it DID make the list?
