Strange happenings have been swirling around Gold Brook Bridge since 1968. The covered bridge has taken on the name, “Emily’s Bridge”, due to some pretty disturbing paranormal activity involving a spirit named Emily that occurs around this location.

The first mention of a haunting around the bridge came to light in 1968. A high school student was using a Ouija board on the bridge and claims that a spirit named Emily presented herself. Others have since claimed similar experiences.

While she yearned for his arrival, he did not show, and reportedly the devastated bride-to-be hung herself from the rafters above. Another tale has Emily arriving at church to marry her beloved, however, the groom was a no show. The jilted bride was so distraught that she jumped into the family wagon and drove off. Blinded by sorrow, she took the team of horses to an incredible speed. When trying to navigate the turn before the bridge, the horses, wagon, and Emily crashed over the bank and into the rocky brook with no survivors. There is no historical evidence that Emily ever existed, yet the tales would lay the foundation for the reported hauntings at this spot.
Many visitors to the bridge have claimed to witness paranormal activity. Strange noises such as footsteps, banging, ropes tightening, and screaming of a girl have been heard. Photos taken have displayed unexplained floating orbs.
