The most stunning Rhode Island drive doesn’t require a whole lot of time, nor will it eat up too much gas. Conceivably, you can drive it in about 15 minutes. However, the Revolutionary Heritage Byway boasts a ton of natural beauty and activities that you’ll want to carve out at least an afternoon to visit some of them.

Rhode Island’s only scenic byway, the Revolutionary Heritage Byway earns distinction as the first – and the lone – national byway in the state. It started out as a local scenic byway in 2000 and, in 2021, became a national scenic byway.

Spanning just six miles, the scenic byway passes through the enchanting town of Bristol. You might know it better as Highway 114, Hope Street, or Ferry Road.

Even if you’re just passing through, you’ll be treated to absolutely breathtaking views of Bristol Harbor and Colt State Park, the latter of which is perfect for stopping for a leisurely picnic.

However, if you have the time, definitely stop and explore some of the beloved attractions along the byway and in Bristol – like Coggeshall Farm Museum and Bilthewold Mansion Museum.
