Have you ever been to a breakfast bar? What about a breakfast bar decorated with skulls and morbid themes? What may seem like a dark twist at this breakfast bar is actually a great way to celebrate life and wake yourself up in the morning. Sugar skulls and friendly skeletons are something you don’t expect to see at a breakfast spot, but we welcome anyone to enjoy breakfast, brunch, or lunch, a drink and a good laugh at this place for friends. After all, who wants bright lights before they’ve had their coffee?

Welcome to Wake The Dead Breakfast Bar, a spot in Lawrence that’s a little more morbid than we’re used to. However, despite all the morbid imagery, the service and food are both quite lively.

Dining at this slightly darker breakfast spot is great for those mornings where bright lights aren’t your friend, and a cup of coffee is first on your list before anything else. They’ve been open since 2017, and we hope to get many more years out of this morbid munch-house.

Unlike most breakfast places, this spot serves coffee cocktails, bloody marys, and brews, with mimosas being high on our list of personal favorites.

Why are the mimosas so high on our list, you might wonder? Because they have 50 flavors! Yes, 50 flavors of mimosas, on top of all the other drinks and scrumptious dishes they serve here.

In addition to being a welcome change to your average looking breakfast spot, they also donate 25 percent of their doughnut proceeds to charity. With all these doughnuts to choose from, it’s easy to help others as you help yourself to breakfast.
