But there’s one that stands quite literally above the rest, and that’s the High Bridge in Wilmore, Kentucky. Once upon a time railroads were ubiquitous in Kentucky, running all throughout the state to transport coal and other Kentucky-mined treasures cross-country. There are many trains that use Kentucky railways to this day, including the Norfolk Southern Train.

This train traverses one of the most notable railroad trestles in the country, in fact: the High Bridge.

When built in 1877, the High Bridge was the highest railroad trestle in the world. Today, this 275-foot-tall bridge is still among the tallest titans.

The High Bridge Park, fondly thought of as the crown jewel of the Kentucky River Parks, is a place where bridge-loving folks can come and learn all about these impressive structures.

The park features a pavilion with multiple overlooks offering million-dollar vistas of the Kentucky Palisades and Kentucky River Gorge, plus a playground, museum, and picnic facilities. It’s handicap-accessible, too!
