Summer is a wonderful time to get out of the house and explore New Orleans and the surrounding area. While you can always enjoy a weekend getaway in one of the floating cabins for rent in Louisiana, there are many other summer getaways that can last for an entire day or even a full week. One of our favorite things to do during the summer months is to explore a national park. Head to Jean Lafitte National Park and enjoy a day in the swamp. This national park is only a short drive from New Orleans and is a great way to admire Louisiana’s natural beauty. On your day trip adventure, you can walk along a boardwalk and you may even spot an alligator! Of course, summer is not complete without spending some time at the beach. One beautiful and must-visit beach that is near New Orleans is Ship Island. You can take the boat ride out to the barrier island and then enjoy white sand and clear water. This is a great place to relax and recharge and admire the views surrounding you. For a delightful getaway, how about visiting a nearby town? Ponchatoula is a delightful place to visit with plenty of places to eat and shop. Make sure you plan a visit during the annual strawberry festival — there’s no experience quite as sweet!
