Tucked away in the Mt Hood National Forest, Tamanawas Falls is one of the top waterfall gems in Oregon. This majestic 100-foot waterfall is located at the end of an easy 3.6-mile hike that will simply blow you away.
The hike begins at the Sherwood Trailhead (AKA Tamanawas Falls Trailhead) in the Mt Hood National Forest. The hike is 3.6 miles roundtrip, and will lead you through the woods along the beautiful Cold Spring Creek all the way to Tamanawas Falls.

As you follow the creek through the lush evergreen forest, you’ll have the thrill of crossing a number of rustic wooden bridges. After crossing the first bridge, keep right to follow the East Fork Trail north.

Soon enough, you’ll reach the East Forks Trail / Tamanawas Falls junction. Keep left towards Tamanawas Falls.

This massive waterfall cascades over a stunning basalt cliff into the misty Cold Spring Creek, framed by emerald green moss. The sight is simply magical.

One unique perk of this hike is that you’ll find a large hidden cave behind the waterfall that will give you a spectacular view of the falls from behind. The cave is mostly dry, but you’ll want to be careful not to slip on the rocks.
