You don’t have to head into the mountains to enjoy a dreamy day outdoors. Located in the Gem State’s capital city is the beautiful Boise River Greenbelt, one of the best river walks in Idaho. This is not only a favorite destination for many Idahoans, but it is a favorite location for people all over the country. The Boise River Greenbelt in Idaho was recently named by Fodors as one of the best river walks in the entire United States, and we couldn’t agree more. When compared to many of the other incredible waterfronts around the country, this is quite the honor.
The Boise River Greenbelt is a 25-mile paved path that is perfect for running, walking, cycling, and more.

As you explore this path, you’ll quickly see why Boise is called the City of Trees. Large portions of this pathway are lined with thick trees and it’s quite stunning.

There are more than 16 bridges along the Boise River Greenbelt. Many of these bridges are grand and beautiful and you’ll definitely want to spend some time admiring each one.

This paved pathway follows the Boise River and you’ll capture some pretty remarkable views all year long. However, the Boise River Greenbelt wasn’t always the beautiful area that it is today.
Boise River Greenbelt/Facebook This river used to be filled with industrial waste and sewage. Everywhere you would look, it was covered with trash, weeds, and other debris. In 1968, the first Greenbelt plans were established to turn this area into a beautiful place that could be enjoyed by residents in the city. Throughout the years, it has transformed into one of the most gorgeous walking trails in Boise.
All along this Idaho waterfront, you’ll come across many remarkable gems. The Ribbon of Jewels is a group of a dozen parks that are located along the Greenbelt and are all connected by the paved path.

You can also stop by Julia Davis Park, which is the oldest park in Boise.

You can also make your way to Bown Crossing, a small neighborhood with townhomes, lofts, shopping, dining, and more.

The trail is just 1.2 miles out and back and will take you on an enchanted journey through the forest until you reach the falls, where you can hang out on the observation deck for a while and watch the rushing water. Where is the best place to live in Idaho? That’s a tough one – we love all of the charming cities and towns that make up the Gem State, but we’ve got to give it to Boise. Not only was Idaho ranked as one of the safest cities in the world, but between the many museums, parks, and walking trails in Boise, you’ll never run out of things to do. The only bummer is that Boise is home to some of the worst rush hour traffic in the country, so maybe stay off the roads during peak times to help with the congestion.
