Halloween: the beginning of yard decorating season in West Virginia. Ghouls and goblins, gravestones, skeletons, witches, cobwebs … you’ll spot all these and more sprouting up in yards near you come late September into October. But our favorite of all the Halloween decorations is the iconic pumpkin – and it’s that iconic pumpkin (or rather, thousands of them!) that helps to make Ceredo-Kenova, West Virginia the absolute best town in the nation to visit during the Halloween season.
Welcome to the Kenova Pumpkin House. Begun in 1978 with just five lowly pumpkins, this classic West Virginia fall tradition has grown and grown, now featuring more than 3,000 pumpkins dotting porch, yard, and street and attracting over 30,000 visitors each Halloween season.

You can find the Pumpkin House at 748 Beech Street in Kenova. The pumpkin display is usually ready at the beginning of the last week of October and (if the weather cooperates) runs into early November. Viewing is free and available 24-7 while the pumpkin display is up.

Even though the Pumpkin House is open for a week or two, the best time to visit is the last weekend in October.

That’s because the Pumpkin House isn’t all that Ceredo-Kenova has to offer in terms of Halloween fun. Rather, the Pumpkin House is the centerpiece of another fabulous Ceredo-Kenova Halloween tradition: C-K AutumnFest.

In addition to the Pumpkin House, it includes a bake-off (as expected, many of these baked goodies feature pumpkin as a main ingredient!), an arts and craft show (Christmas shopping, anyone?), a tractor show, a parade, food vendors, and so much more.
