Indianapolis is a pretty fun place, and the suburb of the city known as Speedway is no different. The whole area is jam-packed with history and fun stuff to do and see, and we think it would take days – at least – to do it all. If you’re short on time, though, you’ll want to stop at one specific place; it has the best selection in Indiana when it comes to vintage sodas, candies, snacks, and the freshest produce you’ll ever taste. Check out The Famous Tomato in Speedway and see what the hullabaloo is all about ASAP! Oh, and make sure there’s lots of room in the car for all the goodies you’ll be taking home. There are plenty.
The Exotic Tomato’s slogan is “Welcome Back to the Past,” and we think that’s perfectly appropriate.
Heidi Doerr/Google Local It really does feel, from the moment you walk in, like you’ve stepped into a time machine that’s taken you back to a time when shops like this were the norm and not something as special as this place is now. But, lucky for us, it’s here in all its old-school glory.
You’ll be floored by the incredible selection of vintage sodas (seriously, you won’t find these just anywhere), awesome hot sauces (sourced from all over the place), old-school candies (yum), and, of course, the best, freshest produce you’ll ever find.
Shel/Google Local The shop offers indoor seating, a snack bar, a salad bar, and more. Seriously, you need to see it all to believe it.
Is self control not your strong point? Same, which is a problem because we’re pretty sure we’re going to bring home about ten pounds of vintage candies.
Shel/Google Local Not big on the old style stuff? No worries - there’s plenty of modern deliciousness at hand here, too. When we say the selection here - for everything - is huge, we mean it! Come in for old-school soda pops, stay for the snacks. And the fruits and veggies. And the salads…
…and the candy apples!
Dan Mossor/Google Local The Famous Tomato has been family-owned since its start, and it shows. The small-town, big family touch is definitely part of what makes the place such a delight. We can’t get enough of it, and we don’t think you will either!
After all, there really is no such thing as “enough” when it comes to deliciousness (and fun).
Kyle Sallee/Google Local Depending on what season it is (we suggest coming in for each, so at least four times a year), you’ll find all kinds of relevant products. Find pumpkins in the fall, tomatoes in the summer, and so much more. There’s a selection of locally grown and sourced stuff, and, of course, plenty of other things from all over.
Does it get more fun than The Famous Tomato? We think not.
