Some drink to relax, and some drink to get drunk, but whatever your goal, you should know where to go for weekend fun. Your best bet for a good time involving alcohol is one of these places. But how did we pick these spots? We did the research of course! This list came about after reviewing other lists and considering factors such as percentage of adults aged 20-29 (because statistically they drink to get drunk more often). Also included are the number of bars per capita, the number of liquor stores per capita, and the number of alcohol-related tweets in the area. Thanks to the research team at roadsnacks.net and analysis company 24/7 Wall Street for making the data available.
- Norwich
Faolin42/Wikimedia In addition to having lots of liquor stores, Norwich made it on the list for having one of the highest divorce rates in the state. Statistically, more divorces means more drinking. Especially when you consider that divorce is three times more likely if one of the partners has a drinking problem.
- New Haven
Faolin42/Wikimedia So many bars! But that’s to be expected when your city is also hosting a major university. So be prepared for a younger crowd in this night scene.
- Milford
BotMultichillT/Wikimedia With slightly fewer bars, but just as many liquor stores, Milford is picturesque and party worthy.
- New London
Juliancolton/Wikimedia New London scored in the top 5 for both bars and liquor stores. Coupled with its waterfront venues and boating, I bet things can get crazy!
- Branford
Doug Kerr/Flickr 10% of the population is under 30 and it made the top ten list for divorce, bars, and liquor stores. Plus, there were a high volume of tweets about meeting up late at night and how crazy things were yesterday. Sounds like Branford is having a good time!
- Hartford
Doug Kerr/Flickr The capital of the state is also a capital for a good time. (Ironically, the jokes get better with drinks.) Folks here love to get a drink after work.
- Stamford
Adam Moss/Flickr I worked in this city once upon a time, and my coworkers were definitely into the nightlife. No surprise, since Stamford is considered one of the most exciting places and is noted for having many excellent restaurants. But foodies know that with good food there must be good wine!
- Cromwell
Doug Kerr/Flickr Looks like little Cromwell has big spirit. With the tenth highest number of liquor stores per capita, you have to think there are some awesome house parties here. Although they just missed the top ten for bars per capita, coming in at number 12.
- Mansfield
Ray Kingston/Flickr Another place whose numbers may be affected by the presence of college students. But that just comes with the territory. When you’ve got college kids stuck in a small space, they’re bound to get creative. With UConn consistently making party school lists, this place had to be included. For the students.
So we’re saying drunkest, but they could just be the biggest party animals. What do you say? Have you ever stopped for a drink in one of these cities?
