Along a tributary of the Fox River, you’ll find the Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail and it’s a one-of-a-kind experience if you enjoy being out on the water in a kayak or canoe.
Nippersink Creek is an 18-mile tributary of the Fox River. With its shallow and calm waters, it’s an ideal body of water for paddling.

The Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail runs between Wonder Lake in McHenry County all the way to Pistakee Lake at Chain O’ Lakes State Park in Lake County.

There are a few sites where you can launch your kayak or canoe. There’s Keystone Road Landing or Pioneer Road Landing, both in Richmond as well as the Nippersink Canoe Base in Spring Grove.

Paddling along the trail, you will cross under two different bridges. However, if the water depth is above 6.5 feet, the launches will be closed due to clearance issues under those bridges.
