Located in the northwest corner of New Mexico, Farmington is a part of the state you want to visit. There are plenty of things to see and do. It’s worth the time, effort, and expense to take a road trip in New Mexico from anywhere in the state, even, just to try the sopapillas at Francisco’s.

Your go-to neighborhood place in Farmington, Francisca’s is on the end of a strip center on North Butler Ave in the northeastern area of the city. It’s a family-owned, Mexican restaurant with excellent food and service.

It has a basic cafe style, which is not fancy, but you would not expect it to be when you’re paying such reasonable prices. The atmosphere is welcoming and warm, with a pleasant hometown ambiance.

But what you also get at Francisca’s are sopapillas, which have been described as “little pillows from heaven.” They are a real treat to end the meal, properly cooked, and crisp on the outside while soft on the inside.

Here you are getting the type of food that can only result from recipes that have been passed down in family kitchens and mom-and-pop restaurants.

Whatever else you have, just be sure to try the sopapillas!

While you are in Farmington, be sure to take time to enjoy some of its beauty. Visit Lake Farmington’s Sandy Beach or explore a trail such as the Riverside Loop Trail.
