Kayaking is always a peaceful adventure, and the scenery doesn’t get much better than The Medina River in the Hill Country. This narrow, tree-lined tributary with canyon walls on either side in some parts is a magical place to spend an afternoon.

Running through the charming small town of Bandera, the Medina River is a relatively mellow tributary lined with whimsical trees. It’s much lesser-known than rivers like the Comal or Guadalupe, so you can expect some degree of solitude.

The Medina River Company offers kayak floats ranging from about 2 to 3.5 hours long. Overnight camping trips are sometimes offered upon request and with at least 48 hours’ notice.

Pile onto a nostalgic school bus and get shuttled directly to the river. Different stopping points are available depending on how long a float you choose.

Kayak rentals are $50 for a single, and the shuttle ride is included. Please make reservations for groups larger than 10 people.

Just look at this view! Since the Medina is among the more remote rivers in Texas, you’ll likely be able to enjoy the scenery with few distractions.

Nothing quite compares to the tranquility of having the river all to yourself. Ascend into total bliss as the trees gently rustle in the wind and a slow-moving current leisurely pulls you along.
