In addition to camping, this park offers a unique Furnace Hill Lodge that has that rustic feel one might expect from a state park.

Try out another state adventure at Port Crescent State Park, which boasts three miles of Lake Huron shoreline. This family-friendly park is packed with fun including five miles of hiking trails, a dark sky preserve, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and birding. And don’t forget to watch the sunset of Saginaw Bay, from the wooden boardwalk.

While a modern campground is available, you might try this unique way of lodging in one of two geodesic domes located in the center of the campground. Each one sleeps up to four comfortably, with heat and air conditioning. The intimate sitting area includes a coffee maker, mini-refrigerator, and a microwave. The domes are without running water, but a shower building with a toilet is located about 300 feet away.

For more fun, check out J.W. Wells State Park where you can fish, swim, hunt, play horseshoes, or just have a nice family picnic. Six miles of hiking trails are also available to explore on the sprawling 678 acres.

A stay at the historic Baystone Lodge takes you right near the beach and day-use area. Originally built in the 1940s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the lodge served as the park manager’s residence until recently.

The lodge comes with that country feel you might expect, with hardwood floors, a cut-stone fireplace, and hand-hewn beams.
