We love lengthy hikes in the Nutmeg State. There are several great trails that will take you much of the day to complete, or even multiple days! But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of great beginner-friendly trails in Connecticut to enjoy. We’ve gathered up some of our favorite shorter, easier hikes throughout the state for you. These are great for those hiking with kids or inexperienced hikers who aren’t looking for a difficult journey. Check them out:

  1. Bluff Point State Park and Coastal Reserve Trail: 55 Depot Rd, Groton, CT 06343

Jeffy Buckley/Alltrails Bluff Point State Park is so underrated. This 800-acre oasis contains miles of coastline and has some wonderful trails. The Coastal Reserve Trail is an easy 3.6-mile loop with very little elevation gain. The scenery is stunning, but it can get pretty buggy in the summer, so make sure to bring mosquito repellent! Bluff Point State Park, 55 Depot Rd, Groton, CT 06340, USA

  1. Beach Walk at Hammonasset Beach: Madison, CT 06443

John Hayes/Alltrails Hammonassett Beach is one of the more popular state parks in Connecticut. Its two miles of shoreline is the longest public beach in the state, and an absolutely perfect place for a seaside stroll. Hammonasset Beach, Madison, CT 06443, USA

  1. Bee Brook Loop at Hidden Valley Preserve: 198 Bee Brook Rd, Washington Depot, CT 06794

Celeste Echlin/Alltrails The Bee Brook Loop is a popular trail due to its beautiful scenery and unique suspension bridge. It’s tucked away in the Hidden Valley Preserve and spans a little over two miles. Hidden Valley Preserve, 198 Bee Brook Rd, Washington Depot, CT 06794, USA

  1. Lake Mohegan Loop Trail: Fairfield, CT 06825

Sarah Sykes/Alltrails The Lake Mohegan Loop is a 2.1-mile loop that’s great all year round - it’s a great spot for snowshoeing! The loop around the lake is lovely and perfect for dogs. Lake Mohegan, Fairfield, CT 06825, USA

  1. Kent Falls Red and Yellow Loop at Kent Falls State Park: 462 Kent Cornwall Rd, Kent, CT 06757

Greg Gartsu/Alltrails It doesn’t get much prettier than Kent Falls State Park, and with 200 acres to explore, it also doesn’t get much roomier. You’ll find a variety of trails here of different difficulties, but one of the easiest (and most beautiful!) is the Red and Yellow Loop. This .7-mile loop won’t take you long to get through and will take you right up to the park’s eponymous falls. Kent Falls State Park, 462 Kent Cornwall Rd, Kent, CT 06757, USA

  1. Salmon River Trail Loop from Day Pond: Colchester, CT 06415

Leanne Schroeder/Alltrails This easy loop trail in Salmon River State Forest is a great option if you’re looking for varied landscapes. You’ll head by a pond, through the woods, and even past a waterfall! Day Pond, Colchester, CT 06415, USA

Amanda Hagen/Alltrails Gillette Castle is one of our favorite castles in Connecticut, and the park’s 2.2-mile loop trail is an easy way to get a great view of both the magnificent structure and the park itself. Gillette Castle State Park, East Haddam, CT 06423, USA
