Cape Cod has long been a dangerous place for ships. In fact, over the centuries, there have been thousands of shipwrecks off its coast.
Race Point Lighthouse/Facebook The need for a lighthouse at Race Point in Provincetown became clear over time due to its location at the tip of the Cape Cod peninsula. In the early 1800s, a lighthouse was finally built.
The original Race Point Lighthouse was first built in 1816 and eventually replaced in 1876. The current 45-foot cast-iron structure now stands watch at the peninsula’s northern tip.

In 1840, the Keeper’s House was built and then an additional Keeper’s house was created in 1876. Today, you can spend the night in the historic Keeper’s House which can accommodate up to eight guests.

While pillows and blankets are provided, you will have to bring your own bed linens as well as towels, food, and water to drink.

While the Keeper’s House is an incredibly unique place to stay, there is one additional option at Race Point Light Station. The Whistle House is incredibly private and also offers accommodations for up to eight people.

Updated in 2007, you can enjoy modern amenities while also enjoying a historic feel. The Whistle House has one bathroom, two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and an outdoor shower.

Whether you decide to stay at the Keeper’s House or the Whistle House at Race Point Light Station, just immersing yourself in the surrounding beauty of Cape Cod is something truly remarkable.

Accommodations at Race Point Light Station are seasonal between early June and mid-November. You will also be given transportation to and from your accommodations or you may obtain an overland permit from the Cape Cod National Seashore to drive your own SUV.
