The most scenic drive in Virginia is one that will take you on an unforgettable trip through the mountains. The aptly-named Skyline Drive is bucket-list-worthy any time of the year. This famous Virginia route cuts its way through Shenandoah National Park, following the mountain ridge and offering spellbinding views along the way. Skyline Drive takes about three hours to complete, but you’ll likely want to make a few stops along the way, so be sure to allow for plenty of time to discover all that this journey has to offer.

The only public road through Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive is a 105-mile road that follows the crest of the Appalachian Mountain Range in Virginia, specifically known as the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The route was planned in 1924, and President Hoover initiated the build in 1931. The road was finished in sections, with the last section being completed in 1939.

As was the case with many national projects at this time, a majority of the building effort was made by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

And while it’s not necessary to drive the entire route at once, there’s something fun about completing all 105 miles.
