Skull Hollow Nature Trail is a lesser-known trail in Oklahoma but it’s actually quite spectacular. It’s located inside Hawthorn Bluff Campground on Lake Oologah and has three different routes to choose from. It’s an easy hiking trail that offers peace and solitude with lots of shade and great views. It has an overlook with views of the lake that are absolutely breathtaking. Check it out below:
Skull Hollow Nature Trail is located along the shores of Oologah Lake in northeastern Oklahoma. It is a clearly marked hiking trail that has three options: the short loop, the long loop, or the hiking trail. The price of entry is $5 per vehicle for parking.

The short loop is only one-third of a mile so it offers a short hike for those that want to enjoy the oak-hickory forest without hiking too far.

The long loop is three-quarters of a mile in length and is an interpretive trail with 10 different points of interest along the path.

The hiking trail is my favorite due to the bluff views of the lake and surrounding scenery. It is 1.3 miles long and is easy but there are a few inclines to navigate.

One of the best things about this trail is the hidden overlook that offers views of the lake and surrounding scenery. It’s absolutely breathtaking!

Along this route, you’ll get to enjoy breathtaking lake views. I suggest you bring along a picnic and sit on the side of the lake. It’s a popular lake for sailboats so you can usually see them in the distance.

Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on a leash. If your dog loves water, there is an easy entry spot for them to get wet.
