best scenic drives in Tennessee August 04, 2022 Chris Dodge The Snake is a great scenic drive through the mountains! What are some other great drives that we can see here in Tennessee? It is true we can take some pretty incredible drives right here in our state. There is no shortage of great places to drive with a view. So, here are a few you can save for your next weekend trip. The Great Smoky Mountains boast a few really unique and beautiful drives. Cades Cove is a wonderful one-lane road that is perfect for viewing the mountains, fields, and wildlife in this National Park. The Roaring Fork Motor Trail is also another incredible single-lane road drive through so truly amazing scenery. Take advantage of the many stops in both places to view historic buildings or take a hike. The Foothills Parkway is great for stunning mountain range views all around you. Then of course the most common drive through the Smokies is the Newfound Gap Road. It will take you through sharp turns, tunnels, and loops all while traveling along beautiful lush forests and terrific overlooks of the mountains. Outside of the Great Smoky Mountains, the Natchez Trace Parkway is a scenic road that is maintained by the National Park Service—taking you through beautiful forests and a fantastic bridge. Over this 440-mile drive, you can stop and take in a couple of hikes or just enjoy the beauty. If you love history, then the Cumberland Historic Scenic Byway is for you. See the very path that Native Americans and Daniel Boone used. The Cherohala Skyway is also another amazing road to test your driving skills and take in some amazing views along the way. Tennessee is such a beautiful place to see all of these wonderful things that you don’t even need to step outside of your car to see. There are always great ways to spend the days in our state driving to new places and taking in the views.
