Life can sometimes feel crowded and overwhelming, especially if you live in the city. Luckily, we have plenty of secluded parks in Connecticut where you can escape into nature and enjoy tranquility without a ton of other people around. One of our favorite is the marvelous Selden Neck State Park. This place is huge and rather remote. It’s nestled in the Connecticut River off the coast of Lyme, and is only reachable by boat. This 607-acre island is located just off the coast of Lyme. It’s accessible by boat and is the perfect spot for hiking, fishing, hunting, or primitive camping.

Selden Neck State Park is mostly forested, with some marshland along the coast.

There are no roads here, though there are several hiking trails that are perfect for a relaxing afternoon of getting in touch with nature.

The island was once connected to the mainland, but became cut off from the rest of the state when a storm hit in 1854, causing extensive runoff.

Interestingly, there was once a quarry here. The sandstone pulled from here was used for sandstone pavers in New York City and other nearby cities.
