Located on the outskirts of Port Angeles on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula, the 190-acre Salt Creek Recreation Area involves quite a trek for most Washingtonians. However, that gives it a true hidden gem feel — and depending on when you go, you might enjoy plenty of solitude.

Salt Creek Recreation Area & Campground is open year-round, although it’s most popular in the summertime.

This area was once occupied by Camp Hayden, a World War II military camp built in 1942.
