Nothing overtly tragic has ever happened in the tiny community of Saint Marie, Montana (also recognized as St. Marie). But no one who has ever passed through can deny that the area is totally creepy.

Perhaps it’s because of its current abandoned status, or maybe it’s because of the recent attempted takeover by an anti-government group. For whatever reason, there’s something eerie about Saint Marie, Montana.

Saint Marie is located in Valley County near Glasgow.

It is best known for being the site of the Glasgow Air Force Base.

YouTube At one time, Saint Marie, Montana was the home of thousands of military personnel and their families. However, when the base closed down for good in 1976, the population dwindled.

These days, the town consists mainly of abandoned homes.

YouTube There are no gas stations, restaurants, or grocery stores. However, as of 2020, 325 people still call Saint Marie, Montana home.

It’s impossible not to feel a little eerie when you walk through this abandoned town.

YouTube After all, it feels a little like entering the Twilight Zone.

But despite being mostly abandoned since the late 1970s, the local creepy history happened a lot more recently.

YouTube Beginning in 2012, an anti-government group associated with the Sovereign Citizen Movement attempted to take ownership of the community by buying and seizing up a large amount of mostly vacant properties through bogus liens and litigation. After several years of local backlash and a battle with the government, Saint Marie is a glorified ghost town once again.
