If you’re ever in the Chicago area and looking for an easy hike in Illinois that’s sure to impress, then the Saint Louis Canyon Trail is for you. Just two miles south of Utica or 1.5 hours from Chicago, this lush trail ends at a lovely waterfall. It’s in a canyon formed by glacial melting, and the short-and-sweet hike will leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated. Nestled in Starved Rock State Park, the trailheads give you the option of a short 10-minute hike directly to the waterfall or the full three-mile scenic trail; regardless of which option you choose, you’re in for one of the best hikes in Illinois!
