If you don’t have much experience hiking in Washington, it’s easy to be intimidated. After all, some of our best trails involve some pretty tough terrain. The good news is, our state has plenty of trails that don’t require a lot of experience (or even outdoor knowledge) that are just as beautiful as some of our more advanced hikes. Round Lake Loop is definitely one of them.

Round Lake Loop is located in Clark County, at Lacamas Park just outside of Camas.

Monika Radke / alltrails.com Round Lake was formed during the Missoula Floods, which occurred over 12,000 years ago.

The loop trail is only 1.4 miles, and it’s nice and easy.

Patrick Morganson / alltrails.com It’s a simple loop around a beautiful lake, so you’re highly unlikely to get lost. It doesn’t get more beginner-friendly than that.

This is a popular place, so you’re unlikely to have the trail to yourself. Luckily, it never gets very crowded here.

Sara Croco / alltrails.com Start your hike in the morning and you’ll be likely to have plenty of privacy.

Eventually, you’ll come to a walking bridge …

… and that’s when you know you’re close to the Round Lake Dam.

Samy Saleh / alltrails.com The original dam was built in 1883, raising the water level about 12 feet.

Today’s dam is actually the third on the site, which was constructed in the 1930s.

Shawn Hamby / alltrails.com It sure makes for a beautiful hike.

Lacamas Park has several fantastic hiking trails, but this is the perfect one for beginners.

Russell Hestley / alltrails.com Whether you’re brand new to hiking or just looking for a nice easy loop, this place never disappoints.

Round Lake is one of many natural lakes in this part of Washington, which is close to the Columbia River Gorge. You could work this easy loop trail into a weekend of exploring the area, or make it a day trip destination. Do you have a favorite easy hike in Washington?
