Oh, the good ole days of summer… you could say that was back before the invention of cell phones and video games. Opinions on the exact timing of the good ole days likely vary by age, but the sentiment remains the same: things were less complicated and families came together more. One place that offers a classic summer day trip destination in South Carolina is Richardson’s Lake Water Park. It’s a relatively little-known spot that promises fun for the entire family. So be sure to plan a visit before the season ends!
There’s a little-known natural waterpark about an hour southwest of Columbia where you’ll step back in time for an old-fashioned, fun-filled day outdoors just having fun with the family.

And a game room and concessions stand provide some out-of-water rest time to refuel and then let that food settle before you get back in the water to head to one of the diving boards or platforms. The hot dogs are always at the ready when you are, and the staff is super friendly.

Richardson’s Lake Water Park July 10, 2022 Beth C. What are some of the best swimming holes in South Carolina? Anyone who has spent the summer in South Carolina knows that it’s a season that can get unbelievably hot. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to beat the heat. One of our favorites is taking a trip to a swimming hole. Sure, there are plenty of fun swimming pools to visit throughout the state, but there’s something downright enchanting about visiting a natural swimming hole. And, you’re in luck, because we’ve scouted out some of the very best natural swimming holes in South Carolina. At the top of our list is Wildcat Creek Falls. Located inside the namesake Wildcat Wayside State Park, this waterfall pours into a beautiful swimming hole and even features a 130-foot sliding rock. Next up would be Carrick Creek Falls. Another enchanting waterfall swimming hole in South Carolina, this beautiful spot is found within Table Rock State Park. (Table Rock State Park is in itself an incredible day trip destination!) Another great option for cooling off during those hot months is Reedy Cove Creek. It can be found in Greenville County, just a quick drive from Table Rock State Park. This deep, lovely swimming hole is the perfect place to splash around. Some other swimming spots in South Carolina to check out are Long Shoals Wayside Park, Parsons Mountain Recreation Area, Riley Moore Falls, Grapevine, Chau-Ram Falls, Todd Creek Falls, Cedar Shoals Creek, Black River, Aiken State Park, and Barnwell State Park. How many of these swimming holes in South Carolina have you checked out before?
