New York Fun Facts September 14, 2022 Rachel Raimondi Are there any animal encounters in New York? You can certainly come across a great deal of wildlife in New York, such as bears, snakes, raccoons, and deer. But if you want to see the most animals all together in one spot in the Empire State, you’ve got to get to the Bronx Zoo. It is one of the biggest and most diverse of zoos in the US, with over 17,0000 animals among its 265 acres. Some of the most unique include snow leopards, red pandas, and gorillas. There are tons of special exhibits to explore and several fun events throughout the year, like Boo at the Zoo and holiday lights. While not as large, a few other notable zoos in New York are the Bear Mountain Zoo, Seneca Park Zoo, and Buffalo Zoo. What stereotypes are there about New York? One of the biggest stereotypes is that everyone from New York is from New York City. NYC is actually only 305 square miles. And since the entire state is 54,556 square miles, there is certainly a lot more to New York than just the Big Apple. From the scenery of the Hudson Valley to the massive Adirondack Park to the Finger Lakes, there is a lot more to see and a lot more to do in New York State than just what Manhattan has to offer. Where can I find unique shopping destinations in New York? New York is one of the premier places to shop in the U.S. But it’s not NYC we are talking about here. For some of the most unique shopping in NY, you’ll need to go a bit upstate to Hudson, located over 100 miles north of the city. For shopping, you’ve got tons of antique stores, boutiques, flower shops, furniture stores, and clothing stores. And if all that shopping works up an appetite, there are also a ton of restaurants, bakeries, and bars.
