Today is a good day for a road trip. And if not today, then maybe tomorrow. Or the next day. Or someday very soon. And once you find a good day for a West Virginia road trip, the next thing you need is a good place for a road trip. And that place, in West Virginia at least, just might be Point Pleasant.
Sometimes, you can’t tell anything about a town by its name.
Jubilee Jer / Tripadvisor But other times, you can tell quite a bit about a place just by hearing its moniker. Take the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, for example.
Perched on the point where the Kanawha River meets the Ohio River, Point Pleasant is the perfect day trip destination.
Tiffany A / Tripadvisor It’s got things to do. It’s got a variety of charming local shops. There’s waterfront. There’s history. There are museums. There’s ice cream. And that’s just the tip of the point (literally and figuratively)!
Take the museums, for example.
Bob S / Tripadvisor Within a stone’s throw, you can catch both the Mothman Museum and the Point Pleasant River Museum.
In terms of history, take a stroll through Tu-Endie-Wei State Park, located right on the point…

…and then follow the murals down along the Ohio Riverfront to discover stories of the native tribes and early pioneers who called this area home, including Chief Cornstalk, Mad Anne Bailey, Daniel Boone, and more.

In terms of waterfront, try boating along either the Ohio or Kanawha, or take a stroll along the trail that follows the Ohio River through town.

In terms of food, try any of the local restaurants, including both burgers (try 1st & Main Burgers & Fries), Mexican (try Rio Bravo 2) and ice cream (try What’s The Scoop) right on the point.

For shopping options, stroll the downtown area and pop into the Mason Jar or Point Pleasant Trading Post or any number of other charming shops and boutiques the historic downtown area is bursting with.

This truly is a place where history and rivers meet. And this is just the beginning of what this small town has to offer; we haven’t even mentioned the Silver Bridge Collapse or Fort Randolph!
