There’s no shortage of scenic drives in Tennessee, but the Natchez Trace Parkway is among the most breathtakingly beautiful drives around. Sometimes the journey is the destination, and that is exactly what you will find with this parkway.

The Natchez Trace Parkway has been described as peaceful, relaxing, and slow-paced. What a great way to take a road trip.

鈴木 かなえ/ Google Do not rush from one place to the next as fast as you can; but instead, slow down and allow the road to take you on a journey. The creators of this road made sure to carefully highlight the natural beauty of the South. Keep an eye out for wildlife and peaceful scenery as you go. This road starts in Nashville and winds through 444 miles all the way through the state and ends in Natchez, Mississippi.

The parkway itself is the destination; however, there are a few places we suggest you take in as you travel south.

Glenn Marsch/ Flickr The first one is Birdsong Hollow Double Arch Bridge. This massive bridge sits 155 feet above Highway 96 below. Soaring high above is a thrilling part of the drive and there is a great viewing spot just north of the bridge.

The Meriwether Lewis Monument is a somber reminder of the value of life.

National Parks Services Meriwether was a great explorer opening up the expanse of the west and exploring our great country. Walking the path is to literally walk in his footsteps of the very land he discovered. His life was tragically lost and the monument sits as a broken shaft to symbolize a life cut short.

Many places along the Trace are great spots to get out of the car and stretch your legs.

Ted Gamble/ Flickr Fall Hollow Falls is a wonderful place to take a break. This accessible hike is only 0.3 miles long and leads to an excellent little 20-foot waterfall.

Another stop along the parkway is the tobacco barn built in 1959.

National Parks Services The farm where the barn sits was once a tobacco field that had grown this crop since 1932. This grueling process was difficult labor and the barn was a cool dry place to air cure the crop.

Our last detour along this scenic drive in Tennessee is the Baker Bluff and Jackson Falls Trail.

Brian Willocks/ Alltrails This 1.1-mile hike will take you through scenic overlooks of the surrounding farmland and lead you to Jackson Falls. The waterfall can be a beautiful scene and the perfect way to end a day of travel along The Natchez Trace Parkway.
