There are a whole lot of feelings we have after a few warm and sunny days in a row. Mostly, it’s relief! Relief that the worst of winter might just be behind us (although, let’s be honest, in New Hampshire you never really know) and that warmer days are here to stay! And with those feelings come a renewed sense of excitement for all the things we can do outside. If you’re looking for something simple with an amazing payoff, check out this hike, one of the best hikes in New Hampshire. It’s short, easy enough for little legs, and lots of fun.
The White Mountain National Forest is a treasure here in New Hampshire. There are plenty of trails and areas to explore, but a common misconception is that enjoying an area requires strong hiking experience. While that’s certainly true of some trails, there are plenty of trails that are perfect for novices, kids, and those who aren’t looking for a sweat-inducing day outdoors.

Make your way along the trail, but expect it to be busy during the spring, summer, and fall. To avoid crowds, plan on visiting in the morning or even late in the afternoon.

The route will follow the Ellis River until you’re above the falls, looking out over the trees.

Depending on the season, you might be met with a rushing water flow. For this, plan on visiting in the spring when the snow is melting or after rain.

The total cascade is about 64-feet tall. It’s quite a gorgeous sight!

And with the rocks, trees, and mist, the area feels a lot like a trip to Jurassic Park rather than the White Mountains!
Julie D / TripAdvisor Kids will love this little adventure and you’ll love how simple it is to guide them along the route.
This trail is great for anyone who appreciates nature but isn’t necessarily an experienced hiker. Take a stroll, enjoy the scenery, and remember how grateful you are for New Hampshire!
