Have you seen the new welcome signs in Nevada? As lovers of travel and exploration, it is exciting to venture out, but there is no denying the wonderful feeling of returning to Nevada after being away. If traveling by car, the road signs that you and millions of travelers see as you cross into the silver state are always a beacon of warmth, familiarity, and home. While we may not give them much thought, Nevada’s welcome signs help to tell the state’s story.
Nevada’s diverse landscapes, rich mining history, and ingenuity are reflected in its road signs. They have always been a fun and creative way to welcome those traveling into the state.

For roughly 25 years, Nevadans grew familiar with the lone miner on a hill. His gaze symbolized many things, including Nevada’s past, present, and future.

However, the state retired the old prospector on the state welcome sign in 2017, due to age and wear.

Designed by none other than art students right here in Nevada, four winning designs were chosen to represent the great state! Each student was selected from one of the four Nevada regions.

The first new sign was installed on State Route 88 at the Nevada-California border south of Minden. Now, you can find them all over the state!

Nevadans will always hold a special place in their hearts for the old welcome signs in the state, but like Nevada, change comes with the territory. The new welcome signs have engaged a whole new generation of tourists and have excited Nevadans, too!
