There is some irony in the title of this article. Getting paid to live in Vermont? How can that be? The beauty that abounds in Vermont, the healthy lifestyle that welcomes its residents, and the friendly and liveable nature of this wonderful state would make many willing to pay extra just to call this place home. But, in fact, as of 2019, Vermont has been inviting individuals to move to the Green Mountain State and promising them up to $7,500 dollars to live and work remotely in Vermont. So pack your bags and head on out, because you are going to want to move to Vermont as soon as possible!
In 2018, the Vermont state government passed a law, whereby the state would compensate individuals to move to Vermont and work remotely.

Individuals who work for out-of-state companies and have the luxury of working from home, and who wish to relocate to Vermont, are eligible to earn up to $7,500.00 dollars paid out over the course of two years.

The law was enacted at the beginning of 2019, and the state had a previous maximum about of money that will go to the initiative: $500,000.00 dollars.

This program intends to fix some of the demographic problems in Vermont. According to the Associated Press, Vermont’s population is stagnating or marginally declining. And, per the U.S. Census Bureau, Vermont’s median age of just under 43 years old is one of the oldest in the United States.
Daniel Mennerich/flickr They are currently undergoing a review of the program, to ensure that workers they hope to attract to the state, like plumbers and preschool teachers, are on the list of eligible professions to receive the grant.
This initiative, called the “Remote Worker Grant Program,” passed its initial stage at the end of 2019. The program still continues to carry on to this day. It is reported that at least 20 candidates per year will be accepted into this program going forward.
