This historic town was incorporated in 1818, which is quite interesting because it wasn’t until 1819 that Alabama officially became a state. Another interesting fact about Mooresville is that the entire town is included on the National Register of Historic Places.

Speaking of historic, one of Mooresville’s most historic buildings is the town’s post office, which is situated at the corner of Lauderdale and High Streets. It was built circa 1840, making it Alabama’s oldest operational post office. It’s also one of the oldest post offices in the U.S.

The Mooresville Post Office was originally located inside of the town’s Stagecoach Tavern on the first floor.

Today, the interior of the town’s current post office consists of the mailboxes and furnishings from the original location. Several of these mailboxes, which are numbered 1-48, have even been used by the same families for generations.
