Arizona isn’t all cacti and tumbleweeds (though we do love our Saguaros.) The Grand Canyon State is actually brimming with beautiful bodies of water, and Lyman Lake is one of our favorites. With one of the best lakes in Arizona, Lyman Lake State Park offers a peaceful waterfront escape where you can swim, hike, boat, fish, and camp in relative seclusion. It’s the relaxing getaway you didn’t know you needed, and it’ll always be there waiting for you.
Located in the scenic high desert landscape of northeastern Arizona, Lyman Lake State Park is a hidden gem that’s every outdoorsperson’s paradise.

The 1,500-acre lake is a man-made reservoir created by the damming of the Little Colorado River. Snowmelt from the slopes of Mount Baldy and Escudilla Mountain feeds the lake, giving it a pristine quality you’ll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.

Lyman Lake is unique in that it imposes no size restrictions on boats. There is a small no-wake zone, but the vast majority is open to all types of watercraft.

Three hiking trails feature a variety of notable sights, including evidence left behind by the area’s earliest residents. On the quarter-mile Peninsula Petroglyph Trail, which is accessible from the campground, you’ll see countless ancient rock drawings that showcase just how much history the park has to offer.

You can also make a splash in the designated swimming area, or embark on a leisurely bike ride around the lake.

Don’t forget to bring Fido along! Dogs especially love the beach area, where they can run and play the day away.

The park has 56 tent and RV campsites - 38 with hookups, and the rest without. You’ll have access to showers, restrooms, and a park store, and the sites are incredibly spacious.
