Paradise might be closer than you realize. There’s a lakeside destination in Wisconsin that will remind you a lot of the Northwoods and it’s an easy drive from some of Wisconsin’s largest cities. It’s called Long Lake and it’s the perfect destination if you need a Wisconsin outdoors escape without a lot of driving. Here’s what you need to know about Long Lake.

The lake is located in Fond du Lac County, in the Northern Branch of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. It’s an easy drive from cities like Milwaukee, Madison, Fond du Lac, the Fox Cities, and Sheboygan.

Long Lake Recreation Area is a place that’s perfect for campers and day trippers. It’s located in the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, a vast forest that traces the edge of the last glacier. The land here was sculpted by the glaciers and it has rugged and rocky hills, as well as some beautiful glacial lakes.

Long Lake is the largest lake in the forest, stretching about two miles. It’s a popular lake for boaters, anglers, paddlers and people who want to enjoy a refreshing swim. There are two pleasant swimming beaches.

You can enjoy a getaway at Long Lake at one of the recreation area’s campsites. The campground has 200 sites and all are an easy stroll from the water’s edge.

If you’re a hiker, you’ll find a lot to love in this park too. The park has endless opportunities for hiking, including a hike up a little mountain that’s perfect for hikers seeking a bit of a challenge.
