Did you know that ALL of Maryland’s lakes are man-made? It’s true! However, that doesn’t make them any less beautiful. Previously we featured a handful of them here and here, and today, we’re focusing on an underrated spot that’s simply spectacular during fall. While you could most definitely head to the bigger lakes like Deep Creek this autumn, Liberty Reservoir is also deserving of a gorgeous day trip.
Liberty Reservoir sprawls parts of Carroll County and Baltimore County.

What’s special about this particular lake is that most of the trails provide views of the water. You’re never too far from a picturesque reservoir scene.

The views are even better during autumn, as fall foliage covers nearly all of the surrounding trees. Splashes of red, yellow, and orange can be viewed all around.

And humans aren’t the only ones who enjoy Liberty Reservoir during fall. Migrating geese often rest here, making for a picture perfect photo op.

If you’re free during an upcoming weekend, hop in the car and make the most of this festive-colored paradise.
